Howdy y’all,
Recently I have heard from a lot of people that I am losing weight, which is awesome, though I haven’t really been trying.
This notice being taken of me prompted me to try a little.
I started using and keeping track of everything via Samsung Health, I try to pay attention to what I eat when I can’t make anything, I bought a scale which excitingly showed me that I weighed less than the weight I had in my head, rather than more.
But probably the biggest thing I have done to try to keep on this downward weight trend besides eating on a schedule is to start eating Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers.
I should point out that I fucking despise microwave food, I don’t like microwaves at all really but I have a couple things working against me in the cooking department.
One, I work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day three days and eight hours a day the other four (if I am lucky, currently I am 12 hours x6 and 8 hours x1).
You may think, well you have plenty of time the four days a week and you would probably be correct and I may work toward this in the future but that brings me to another point.
Two, I live in a mother-in-law apartment on the back of the main house. I have no kitchen area in my apartment so I not only feel like I am intruding upon the occupiers of the main house, when I am off work, I like being alone and not having to deal with anyone for the most part.
A third point is that I am doing everything I can to save money and these things are cheap and not horrible, certainly fewer calories I would imbibe if I were cooking for myself.
Essentially, they are convenient in several aspects and overrule my hatred of microwaves.
So, with all of this being said, I thought I would see if maybe I could help those of you out who are in the same boat as me trying to lose weight by reviewing every Cafe Steamer I am willing to try.
I have listed below every one of the 39 selections Healthy Choice offers.
As I try them, I will add my thoughts on them.
There are some I will not try but not many.
I did most of these talking to my phone on voice text as I did them and after a couple seconds of not talking the voice text shuts off, so many of them are a play by play of exactly what I was doing.
That’s right, exciting.
The Scores are based on comparison to other Cafe Steamers, not the home made versions of these meals.

Tender beef strips with rice, carrots, broccoli and water chestnuts in a sweet teriyaki sauce. This meal certainly smells like beef teriyaki about to take my first bite teriyaki sauce is pretty sweet it’s not bad not quite as sweet as the Asian potstickers the other day. It does have quite a few little strips of beef and they’re the real thing like you get in a Chinese restaurant. I did not add black pepper at first, I wanted to try it without it but it’s sweet enough but I think it will help. I added a good dose of pepper but I don’t think I’ll add any Creole seasoning, I don’t think that would go over that well with Chinese food, never tried it I could be wrong, the pepper does help some. I’m a pretty big fan of anything with broccoli and carrots in it, I like rice and meat is the best of the food groups. I think I only see two water chestnuts in this dish so they’re kind of skimpy on those. It could use something to counteract the sweetness, maybe some Sriracha. I would certainly get it again, though. Chop’s Guide Score 3/5

Grilled white meat chicken with freshly made noodles, carrots, and celery in a creamy sauce. this is the first time I’ve seen the chicken noodle one otherwise I would have had it much sooner, I love chicken and noodles so I’m looking forward to this one. I’m happy because there’s nothing to pick out of this one so I can just add pepper and eat. It smells good, smells like kinda like a chicken noodle soup. Adding some black pepper as per usual. I put the chicken noodle into the sauce, mixing it up, I wish instead of celery it was peas, green beans, and corn but I guess celery is fine too. I’m going to grab a little bit everything and take the first bite. It tastes a little bit like chicken noodle soup but it’s like they added chicken bouillon to it to give it a chicken ramen taste. It is very good if you like chicken ramen. Even though they are steamed, the celery and carrots have the same texture as the noodles so the only thing that’s given it a little bit of bite is a chicken but all in all it’s good. Would certainly get again. Chop’s Guide Score 4/5

Grilled white meat chicken with freshly made rotini pasta zucchini spinach in a basil pesto sauce. Upon opening this one it smells fucking amazing and I’ve really been looking forward to this one. It looks good, it smells good I’m going to throw some black pepper on it because that’s what I do and then I’m going to dump it into it pesto sauce. Mixing it all together with the pepper smells really good. Ok, let me get a little bit everything in the first bite. It is very good, you can taste everything in there the sauce isn’t overpowering this one is definitely among my favorites. I’m in a dilemma about using Tony Chachere’s on this just because I like to cajun everything up but it’s very good by itself. I have to do it, don’t judge me. I add some Tony Chachere’s to it and GOOD GOD, it was a huge mistake, fucking horrible now! Just kidding, Tony makes everything better. Now it’s got some spice to it. Again, this one is very good by itself, but if you want to spice it up, grind some black pepper in there, never use pre-ground pepper. Chop’s Guide Score 5/5

White meat chicken with freshly made linguine and broccoli in a roasted red pepper alfredo sauce. I love chicken and broccoli so I think I will like this one. Hopefully, the peppers are small and not exceptionally prominent so I won’t have to spend 10 minutes picking most of them out. The sauce is orange which I did not expect for alfredo sauce but I guess it’s roasted red pepper alfredo sauce and that makes the difference. I put a little bit of everything on the first bite and you can taste the pepper in it but there is no heat. As a matter of fact, it is kind of bland. Added some black pepper and Tony Chachere’s to it made a world of difference and got a little spice to it. It is good after the additions but not great before. Chop’s Guide Score 2/5

Grilled white meat chicken with freshly made angel hair pasta, roasted garlic and tomatoes in a balsamic vinaigrette sauce. Upon opening it you can smell the pasta and tomatoes, pulling the steamer bowl out, the balsamic vinaigrette does not smell bad, there are a lot of tomatoes in this It’s quite a bit of sauce. Alright going to take the first bite I didn’t add any pepper to this one will see how it is for the first bite. I don’t think I’ve ever had balsamic vinaigrette before but it is pretty good. I don’t know what I would compare it to I’m going to add some black pepper and now it is even better than I thought it was going to be. My only complaint would be even though it’s really good they could have laid off the tomatoes just a hair. Chop’s Guide Score 3.5/5

grilled white meat chicken with carrots, corn, peas and dumplings in a savory pot pie sauce so basically it’s not really crustless chicken pot pie it is chicken and dumplings. I have had this one several times and it is not bad but the dumplings do not quite make up for the lack of flakey crust. But alas, it is a diet and some things must suffer. It makes you wish for a real Pot Pie, though. Much better with Black Pepper and Tony Chachere’s. Chop’s Guide Score 3.5/5
Four Cheese Ravioli & Chicken Marinara

Grilled white meat chicken and ravioli filled with spinach, ricotta, asiago, parmesan and romano cheese in a marinara sauce topped with parmesan cheese.
Upon opening it smells very good tons of tomatoes and unfortunately some onions but ill try it our… adding some black pepper before dumping in the sauce. There are a lot of onions and only 6 or seven ravioli. Going for first bite. It is very good, can taste all the cheese in the ravioli, the onions aren’t too crunchy or overpowering so they are edible, somewhat. I added a can of chicken breast after the first bite which I do quite often because, though these things are good, they do not go very far and I tend to end up hungry again in two hours… the chicken is good with it and so is the bag of garlic and herb tuna I also added to it but even with all that, it was still only 492 calories and quite a bit of food. Grilled white meat chicken with rice and vegetables in an authentic spicy brown sauce. Upon opening it and smelling it smells like peas carrots and onions hopefully won’t taste too much like onions though I hate to have a repeat of that burrito bowl and have to throw this bitch away.Get a little bit of everything on this Fork take my first bite, the sauce starts off sweet then gets a little spicy it’s pretty good Asian kind of taste to it naturally as I do not think General Tso’s fought in the Civil War… I think this may be my favorite Asian one so far if I remember correctly from the ones I’ve had I remember the pot stickers suck. This is probably too spicy for your average North Dakotan but a Texan would probably wonder where the spice is. Chop’s Guide Score 3.5/5

I’m going to put some black pepper on it and I know this will be good with it and I’ll probably put in some Tony’s on it because Italian goes well with Cajun but not until after the first bite. The first bite was very good, not my favorite one but I would never complain about eating this one marinara sauce and noodles Chop’s Guide Score 4/5

Grilled white meat chicken with whole-grain penne vegetables and sauteed onions in a Marsala wine sauce. I do not think I’m going to like this one very much starting out but I’m going to try it. It has got a ton of pepper and a ton of onions on it, so this one is not enjoyable before the first bite. I have to spend 10 minutes getting rid of a good portion of all the peppers and onions so I will be able to taste anything else. I am proven wrong, this one is very goods and I would probably buy it a lot if I did not have to spend so long picking the peppers and onions out of it before I eat it. I did not realize this one had sweet potatoes and cranberries in it… I like neither but I will give it the old college try. Though it says onion in the description, they must be minimal because I do not see any. OK… time for the first bite… get a little bit of everything in there. This is ok, naturally, it has a sweetness to it and the sweet potatoes are a little strong but it is definitely edible. I may never get this one again but I would not starve if this was all there were. Though I haven’t seen any, there is an aftertaste of onion with each bite. Chop’s Guide Score 2/5

Just microwaving this it kind of smells like peanut butter I’m assuming that’s the sesame seeds, I’m not a huge fan of Sesame stuff but it’s palatable so I’m going to try this one. I do like that the arrangement of vegetables is carrots and snow peas not a shit ton of fucking onions and shit. I’m adding a little bit of pepper Mixed it all up and still smells a bit like peanut butter. I’m not certain I’ve ever had kung pao chicken so this may be a new experience for me. Open it up, it’s not to overrun with peppers it’s got more than I really cared for and I’ll probably put a couple of them off but it smells good. I love water chestnuts and broccoli and chicken I know cooking this thing for four and a half minutes may have been a mistake this thing’s almost nuclear hot on my leg but that was the suggested amount of time I had a little bit of black pepper to it but no matter what everything’s better with black pepper except maybe breakfast cereal. I’m on the first bite, it’s kind of a sweet sauce it’s not bad I like the crunch of the water chestnuts it’s pretty good I would buy this one again, not a big fan of peppers but it’s a small price to pay for a good Cafe Steamer. Once opened all I can smell are peppers and it has a considerable number of Chives and peppers in it. I hope it will be worth the money. The sauce itself smells good, added a little black pepper and mixed it all up. The first bite, it is not too bland, you can taste the orange in it and it is sweet but it is not spicy. With Red Peppers, Carrots and peas on a bed of rice in a sweet Asian-style Sauce. It’s a sweet sauce with a potsticker the pot sticker doesn’t really add anything to the flavor of the sauce. The sauce is overpowering which it’s a vegetarian dish anyway so it’s not got any meat to kind of counteract the sweetness. The Potsticker itself is kind of bland the sauce definitely makes most of the flavor for it, not a huge fan. Chop’s Guide Score 1.5/5

I wish it had as much zucchini and carrots as it does peppers, such is life. It has a ton of marinara sauce and that is about all you taste in it, nothing else in the dish is strong enough to counteract the marinara just a little, or there aren’t large enough quantities of anything besides the peppers that could have done anything. It is very good, a standard Chicken Fried Rice in a sauce. I assume without the sauce it would be pretty bland but it is pretty good. I ran out of canned chicken so I think I am going to add Thai Style Tuna to not only spice it up a little but to keep me from getting hungry in two hours. Will certainly get this one again. You only get 5 or 6 meatballs quite a bit of spinach a good amount of pasta. It’s only 280 calories so you aren’t going to get a ton of anything in there but outside of the meatballs, everything else is in abundance. This one smells pretty fantastic when opened though it has a TON of tomato that I feel the need to reduce the amount of. Ah, fuck it, I will leave it in. I will probably never buy it again it’s not spectacular. It is vegetarian so there is not really any consistency except for the chewy noodles and it’s kind of bland. This one smells really good without opening it but the red peppers and scallions give me pause, hopefully, the scallions don’t completely ruin it like that burrito bowl. It smells really good I see far more carrots and edamame than I see anything else. I’m not a big fan of sweet and something food like sweet and sour sweet and spicy so this one probably won’t be my favorite. The texture is spongy like all the vegetarian meals, so far, the only difference here is the Edamame. It’s not horrible, I do not know if I will get it often. It’s got a ton of red pepper and scallions so I’m not digging it too much to start with. I learned when loosing weight for the diabetes thing and no matter what or how hard one tries it all boils down to this one simple law of physics… if you dont burn it, dont eat it. In better terms, Eat to Live, not live to eat. One cant get larger if they dont take it in….. simple physics… no expensive diet plan or food needed.
